Please read carefully, and read to the end: The application for this fellowship begins online, but you must also mail materials. Our online database is set up so that you may log in later and check the status of your application -- specifically, you will be able to see which parts of your application we have received, including each individual letters of recomendation. Fields will be marked 'yes' or 'no.' Since we want your materials here by a certain date, please make use of this feature; if you do not, we recommend sending your materials so that you may confirm they have arrived at our office, either via Interfolio, or with Delivery Confirmation, etc. The status feature is also highly dependent on entering an accurate e-mail address; if you do not receive email confirmation once you fill out the online form, please contact the administrator.

After you apply online, you will receive email confirmation that we have received your application information.

Applicants to the 2007-08 competition should have submitted the following materials between Sept. 4, 2007 and Dec. 3, 2007:

1. An online application, available here.
2. A brief cover note detailing the field for which you are applying.
3. Curriculum vitae.
4. Dissertation abstract (up to three pages).
5. A sample of written work (no longer than 50 pages).
6. A separate description of teaching experience and interests (up to three pages).
NB: Courses will be offered through standing Stanford departments; applicants should familiarize themselves with recent course offerings and department curricula. (Click here for links to individual departments.)
7. Three confidential letters of recommendation (or the applicant’s active graduate school dossier).

Faxed or electronic applications cannot be considered. Send all materials to:

Humanities Fellows Program
Pigott Hall, Bldg. 260
Stanford University
450 Serra Mall
Stanford, CA 94305-2005

As we receive your application materials, we will update your record in our on-line database. The updates we make to your record will constitute our acknowledgement of your application materials. It is your responsibility to ensure that all required application materials have arrived. Only complete applications will be considered.

The selection committee will meet in December, January, and February. Successful applicants will be informed by March 1, 2008.
