The 2008-09 Competition (for Fellowships beginning Fall 2009) focuses on the following fields:

Art History    Drama    English & American Literature   Music (Music History/Theory, Musicology)

Candidates for this year's competition must have received their Ph.D. degree between January 1, 2006 and June 30, 2009.

The Humanities Fellows Program will provide postdoctoral fellowships in Stanford's fifteen humanities departments over the course of two years. Program admissions will focus on selected fields of scholarship in each application year, appointing up to six Fellows per year as follows:

2009-10 Competition (for Fellowships beginning Fall 2010)
Asian Languages, Comparative Literature, French and Italian, German Studies, Linguistics, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Spanish and Portuguese

2010-11 Competition (for Fellowships beginning Fall 2011)
Classics, History, Philosophy, Religious Studies

We invite applicants to apply for fellowships in fields where their work has demonstrable relevance to teaching and research in the designated Stanford department.

Degrees

All candidates for the Humanities Fellowship must have received a qualified PhD within a specified time frame, as follows:

2008-09 Competition (for Fellowships beginning Fall 2009)
PhD received between January 1, 2006 and June 30, 2009

2009-10 Competition (for Fellowships beginning Fall 2010)
PhD received between January 1, 2007 and June 30, 2010

In addition to doctoral students, those currently serving as Assistant Professors, Lecturers, or postdoctorates in other programs are welcome to apply, provided they earned their degree within the time frame specified for the year they apply. Doctorates in Arts (D.A.), honorary doctorates, and other degree equivalents are not considered qualifed PhDs for application to this program.
