The Housing Search:
Fellows are categorized here as "academic staff" and while eligible for Stanford affiliated housing, such as Stanford West, they do not qualify for graduate student or other 'on-campus' housing, though some sublets of faculty housing/condos may be available. We recommend using the "Housing Maps" website, which combines craigslist listings and google maps. Here are some Stanford links regarding the local neighborhoods and average rents. The California Ave neighborhood is a popular rental area that provides Marguerite Shuttle access and a Cal Train stop, a farmer's market, etc. By the way, Stanford will subsidize your commute should you use the shuttle, the Caltrain or a bike, etc -- see: The Commute Club. Thus, if you choose to live outside of Palo Alto, your commute via Caltrain or bus is free.
Stanford's
community housing website
Helpful info about finding housing, plus listings. Access
to listings on this site will require an ID & password, or a temporary
ID/password which the Program Administrator can provide to incoming fellows.
Many local housing/rental listings are also available on-line at craigslist.org,
as well as the classifieds sections of the Palo
Alto Daily News, the San Francisco Chronicle,
and the San Jose Mercury
News.
Other Stanford community ads may be found in the Stanford Daily, the student newspaper, or the Stanford Report, the university's newspaper.
Stanford
West Apartments
Fellows are eligible to apply for apartments
in this complex, located near the Mall at the edge of Stanford property.
Some units are designated for "below market rent," but these are
not always available. At the present time, standard rental rates at Stanford
West are at or slightly above those on the open market locally.
